The undisputed “king of the forest”, Red Oak is by far our most popular species of flooring. Slightly reddish in color with the sapwood being lighter in tone, the grain is pronounced and beautiful with flares or plumes.

The #1 Common grade has significant colour variation in the same board and between boards. All natural hues are generally available in this grade. Large knots are absent, well-scattered, small sound knots up to 5 mm (3/16″) in diameter are acceptable. Repaired open knots up to 5 mm (3/16″) in diameter are also acceptable in this grade. Mineral streaks and larger stains are acceptable without limitation. Checks and minor imperfections (sticker stains, machine marks, abnormal colours and blue sap stains) from the manufacturing process are present in this grade. The #1 Common grade provides the ideal character for those seeking a more rustic and varied appearance, and is popular when used in conjunction with darker finishing stains.
